ADTA and Day of the Teacher

May 2, 2016

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On May 11, 2016, we celebrate California’s “Day of the Teacher.” This celebration has its routes patterned after the celebration of the traditional “El Dia del Maestro,” which is observed in Mexico and Latin American countries. Our California’s “Day of the Teacher” arose out of legislation co-sponsored by CTA and the Association of Mexican American Educators in 1982.

In keeping with this tradition, ADTA would like to honor our teachers by providing them with a lunch next week. This year, we have contracted with the “Overland Meat Company” to prepare the lunches for our teachers! Unfortunately, it’s impossible to deliver fresh lunches to all of the sites on May 11th, so we have established the following delivery schedule for our AESD sites:

TUESDAY, MAY 10, 2016: West Side Park, George, Adelanto, Magathan

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 2016: MK Prep, Eagle Ranch, Mesa Linda, El Mirage

THURSDAY, MAY 12, 2016: Columbia, Ted Vick, Bradach, West Creek, Gus Franklin

If you would like to receive a lunch at your site, please print your first and last name on the order form and then select the type of sandwich meat you would like to enjoy! This year’s boxed lunch choices include ham, turkey, roast beef, and vegetarian sandwiches prepared on assorted rolls selected by our caterer. Your lunch will also include mayo and mustard packets, deli salad and a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie. On the day of your school’s delivery, an assortment of soda and water will also be delivered for your consumption.

Have a happy “Day of the Teacher” and enjoy your lunch!!!

Best regards,
Brian Hahn and Joan Hall

A Message from Your ADTA President

“I want to take a moment to honor and congratulate you on your commitment to your students, your school, and to the local community. This is a hard job. Educators are tasked with so many challenges ranging from providing individualized instruction to keeping up with the latest in educational technology. You have faced these obstacles with grace and professionalism. This is the Week of the Teacher but teaching is only part of the job.

You listen and support. You wipe tears and put on Band-Aids. You coach and mentor. You reach into your pockets and make sure students do not go without. You provide encouragement. No wonder students mistakenly call you “mom” or “dad”. May 11th is CTA’S California Day of the Teacher. ADTA will be honoring you with a sandwich lunch on either the 10th, 11th, or 12th. Please see your site rep for details. ADTA appreciates your dedication and looks forward to supporting all of our members now and in the coming years.”

-Steve Tapia, ADTA President
